We went running again for the first time in ages.  Mummy had been sick followed by a big trip away followed by what she calls jet lag.  I don’t know what it is, but she wasn’t really with it.  So we just went walking in the mornings.  But she told me last night that I needed to be a good boy as we were going to go running again.   I don’t know what she calls it running.  I’d call it a nice prance or perhaps maybe a trot. Run, no.

Mummy said she had to get back on the running thing again cause of some sort of run she’s doing to try to raise money for the Labradoodle Trust.  I hope she raises a lot of money to help rescue lots of doggies like me.

The 2010 DoitforCharity Santa 5km run will take place on Sunday 5th December 2010.  I’ll be running in a Santa costume and will post pictures after the run!  Yes, I’m willing to make a fool out of myself for the benefit of the Labradoodle Trust!

I will be running in order to raise money for the Labradoodle Trust, which is the most fantastic institution – they allowed me to adopt our beloved Barney!  This will be my first ever 5K run, which I’ve been training for since late August.  As you may have read earlier, Barney & I are doing the Couch to 5K program three days a week at 5:30am…so he’s learning how to run a 5K too!

The run will take place at Greenwich Park just a few miles from the centre of London. Greenwich Park is one of the largest parks in the London area and is a wonderful setting for the 5km run!

How to donate?

You can sign up by making a comment in this post & I’ll email you after the run with my address for a check or bank details if you’d like to do it directly.  I may try to get a PayPal thing up and running if that is easier for people too.  Thank you for any donations you can make!

Even if you cannot donate, thank you for any positive encouragement you can send my way!

A word from Barney:  Thank you for helping out.  Without the Labradoodle Trust, I would not have met my new mummy and daddy.  I lurve them very, very much.  I want other doodles whose parents couldn’t take care of them or didn’t want them to have the same opportunity as I did.  So please donate!  Tanks!

Mummy’s new health craze and idea

Here’s a few words from my mummy about a challenge she is going to be taking….and it’s all in honour of ME!

The idea…I’m going to raise money for the Labradoodle Trust.  This is the group that we got Barney from.  And they have lately been inundated by tons of dogs and have many needs.  Labradoodles have a few myths surrounding them, such as ‘they are hypoallergenic’ or ‘they don’t shed’…which in some cases is true, but in many…nope.  Barney sheds for England.  Seriously.  So, in honour of our wonderful doggy, I want to do something to raise money for them.  And what am I going to do?  Money for pounds.  And I’ll do it in a healthy manner.  I will not diet in the traditional way of starving myself, but will eat smaller portions and not eat as many desserts or drink as much wine.  I’ll workout, both by lifting weights (which I love) and by starting to jog with Barney…slowly at first and with lots of walking…but I’ll get there.  My fundraising will be a six month journey to give myself time to do this in a very healthy manner.  And my goal will be to lose twenty-five pounds – which is about 1 lb a week.

I’m calling this the Pounds for Pounds fundraiser.  I start today at the following weight:  168.8lb  , which is  12 stone and .8 pounds.  And my goal is to get to  143 lb, which is 10 stones and 3 pounds.  This is around the weight that I was right before I met my DH and probably my ideal weight when I’m fit.   Any money I raise during this time will be donated to the Labradoodle Trust, to help them find good homes for abandoned dogs.  If you are interested in supporting this cause, please let me know how many pounds (or dollars or euros or whatnot) you are willing to donate per pound I lose after this six month journey.  I’ll post a weekly progress report with my weight, what I’ve done well, what I’d done not so well and my thoughts so far.  No matter what  I lose, the Trust gains!  And while my focus is somewhat on me, it’ll be more on what I can do for someone/something else..which is always a good thing.
