The cake that mummy made for me…with peanut butter ‘icing’ and treats for the paws.  The actual cake was a single serving of rice & lamb.  Daddy made me wait to start eating it cause mummy wanted a picture.  Come on mummy, I’m hungy!!!!

Nom, nom, nom, nom….

Mmmm…peanut butter is my favorite…but it’s sticky mummy.  Licky, licky, licky.  Nom, nom, nom.

It’s mine.  All mine.  Mmmmmm…..

I really loved my food cake and all the treats I got that day.  Mummy and daddy gave me an amazing bone which I totally chowed down on.  It was rockin’.  I had such a good day.

Happy 1st Anniversary!

We’ve loved having our Barney doodle for one full year as of today.  We drove up a few hours north to pick him up.  He had been with a chain of people and was finally coming home, though he didn’t know it yet.  He was so nervous meeting us.  What, another person taking me away?  It took some doing, but we finallly got Barney into the back of the SUV.  I sat in the back keeping an eye on him.    He was panting like a maniac in his anxiety.  We got him home and he began the process of sniffing everything, and was mystified by the fake back lawn.  He wouldn’t go near Roy, which just about killed the guy.

We’ve come a long, long, long way with Barney.  He arrived an anxious mess, not able to meet new people or new things.  He was scratching and licking and chewing himself so much that we had to put him in a plastic hood almost immediately.  He pulled like a maniac, didn’t have much recall and trusted no one.   Now, he’s still anxious, but after a bark or two, he’ll stop and come to investigate new people…sometimes even licking them or letting them pet him.  If he’s not totally distracted by other dogs, he’ll actually walk on a loose lead, and will come on call.  We’ve found the perfect food for him that he loves and which treats his skin kindly.  He still gets allergies (eyes watering and ears all gunky), but we now know how to handle this.

Barney has come to love us and is truly a gentle giant.  Originally he did not know how to deal with other dogs and would barrel in annoying them to the point of fights.  Now he has made some friends, and while still the awkward teen, is much better about making an approach to new dogs.

We’re so pleased to have our sweetest little pooch.  He’s the best thing that happened to us this past year!
