Poor dog.  We got back from a two week vacation yesterday.  He was home already, having been dropped off by the dog walker…and he was a mud pile, so he got a bath almost immediately.  Great way to great your dog, eh?  He was not pleased, but was happy to run and run and run after it in the back garden.  He then went and slept in bed with Roy who was dead by 6pm.

This morning, Roy got up early and walked the dog.  I was in bed and heard him enter, yelling for me.  A “friend” dog had attacked him, cutting his ear up quite badly.  Blood was everywhere as Barney shook his head – walls, floor, etc was splattered.  I quickly grabbed a towel to put pressure on it and had Roy hold it while I put on some appropriate clothing.  Off we went to the vet, less than 24 hours after returning home.

Now my poor dazed doodle is home.  He’s a bit out of it due to the anesthetic and won’t leave my side as he’s very, very anxious as well.  He has had 3 sutures on both sides of his ear, and has a wound on the side of his face which luckily did not need sutures.  He’s on antibiotics and pain meds for the next two weeks.  I’ll have to take him in to see the vet in 3 days and again in 14 to get the sutures taken out.  He has to wear the Elizabethan collar for all of those days, which he’ll hate.  Have to keep him on very light exercise, so no running around with his dog walker this week (at the least).  Oh, well…will save us some money.  Good thing I’m not working this week or next.

From Barney – I just don’t understand what’s going on.  I feel weird.  And a bit sick.  All I want to do is get this thing off my head and sleep.  Wah.  It’s so not fair.  What’s going on?

Well, not actually.  Just a shot in the bum.  Cause mummy is mean and took me to the vet.  I got my booster shot today along with a kennel cough inhalent, worming and flea & tick meds.  So right now, I’m passed out on the couch and not feeling my best.  I want to run around but just don’t have the energy to do it.  Oh well.  Maybe tomorrow Dima will take me running around the Heath and I can go swimming in one of the pools.

Mummy and I have started a new program.  It’s call the couch to 5K program.  It helps people who don’t like to run or who haven’t been running get into running shape.  Ever since mummy had her knee surgery, she’s found it either painful or difficult to run…so she hasn’t been doing it at all.  She likes walking a lot more.  But she’s stalled in her weight loss, so she figures that running will help get it going again.  So last week we would run half a block then walk half a block and go on for 20 minutes doing that.  This week we’ll be running a full block and walking a full block for 20 minutes.  We will do it three times this week.  While mummy still doesn’t like doing it, she knows it’s great for me cause it gets me all sleepy.  And we bond a lot while we’re doing it.  I do get a bit confused at the whole starting stopping thing, but I’m sure it’ll get easier.  So I’ll keep you updated on both her weight loss and her workout.

I am so tired.  I love my mummy, but she kept me up all night long.  Seriously.  I was happily sleeping on the couch, very comfy, when all of a sudden she barged in with pillows.  What the heck?  I thought it was bed time.  But she didn’t turn on the lights or anything.  She just went and closed the curtains in front of the kitchen doors and put pillows in front of all the electronics (guess the lights on them are irritating).  And then she began to make a weird noise.  Really weird.  Almost like when I have a hairball, but louder.  Come on mummy, I’m trying to sleep and you keep making these sharp loud noises.  It’s not fair.  Okay…a bit of silence.  Maybe I’ll be able to sleep.  Oh, but no.  It’s started again.  And to be honest, it went on almost all night long.  And now she’s staying home with me.  Daddy left like normal, but mummy is here.  At least she’s giving me rubbies, but she doesn’t want to play the way she normally does.  Her eyes seem to have water coming out of them after she makes that noise.  And she seems to love all that tissue stuff cause she wipes her face with it all the time.  Wish I could eat them but she throws them away too quickly.  Mmm…used tissue.  I hope she doesn’t stay downstairs again tonight.  I need my beauty rest…there’s a cute little beagle I play with every day. 😉

Today, mummy and daddy put together the gift that daddy’s parents gave to them.  It’s a used treadmill.  They put it in the loft bedroom in front of the t.v. so mummy can workout while watching television.  I don’t know why she needs it when she can just go out running in the park, but she complains about it being too cold or sometin’.  After they put it together, they brought me up to show it to me.  It was a bit scary at first cause it’s this big black thing.  Then they began to give me hugs and kisses when I went nearby. So it didn’t seem too scary. But they wanted me to get ON the thing and step across it.  No frickin’ way.  So they started giving me treats.  Cool.  I put my front legs on it and I got a whole bunch of treats. Then they wouldn’t give me a treat until I walked across it.  I didn’t want to but I really wanted the treats.  So eventually I got my courage up and walked across it.  They pretty much squealed with joy and hugged me and gave me nice yummy things.  So I kept doing it.  And then eventually I went and stood on it the way mummy had – facing the front of the machine.  And they were so excited.  I mean really, excited because I was just standing there?  But I just went with it and ate all the rest of the treats.  Mmm…  I heard mummy tell daddy that this was a first good step.  I wonder if they are going to do something with the big black machine and me? (Whispered from mummy – yes, on those nasty days when you want a walk but it’s icky outside, we’re hoping we can put you on the treadmill for a jog eventually!)  What was that mummy?  I’m going to get more treats on the machine in the future?  Cool.

Hey.  What’s that?  Quit it!  Ouch, ouch, ouch.  Mummy, something hurt me!!!  And I can’t get at it.  No, that’s not where it hurts.  I don’t know how to let you know where it hurts.  Hmmm.  It’s not bothering me as much.  Mmmm…antihistimine in goats cheese, yummy!  Ichy, ichy.  Ooooo…stepped on something out in the back garden.  A bit freaked out now.  Don’t want to go on the artificial lawn.  Maybe after I calm down.  Thanks for making me lie down on my bed.  Think I’ll take a nap.

Mummy took me for a jog today.  It was awesome.  I really enjoyed it.  We walked a bit, doing some obedience, and then she gathered up the lead a bit shorter & we began to jog.  I think it forced me to pay more attention to mummy as I almost ran into her once and it kinda freaked me out.  I did do one bad thing – tried to chase a few birds- but mummy just dragged me in the opposite direction, made me sit until I was calm and then we went back to jogging again.  I know I looked so handsome cause people were making comments about how cute I was. My tail and head were up high and I was prancing like it was nobody’s business.  We didn’t go very far cause mummy doesn’t want me to get hurt or strain anything (or anything on herself) but she said we’d do this every day and build up until we could run for a good long while.  It just poops me out!  I’m feeling a bit sore right now, but I’m sure it’ll be better soon.  Mummy was mean though…she took away my swimming pool, which I love to drink rain water from. She wants me to drink from my dish, but I like the pool better.  I guess I’ll have to get used to my dish again.  Darn mummy!
